Washington, DC-Today, Congressman Tom Perriello announced that, as a result of the Recovery Act approved by Congress, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a grant of $493,355 to the Ferrum Community Health Center for capital improvements.
The funds will be used to build and equip a new pharmacy for the clinic. The total cost of the pharmacy construction is estimated at $621,488 and the remainder of the funding will be absorbed through the clinic's budget. The pharmacy is estimated to have 3,570 users within the Ferrum community.
"These federal funds from the Recovery Act will allow the Ferrum clinic to build a pharmacy to serve thousands in the community. As more Americans lose their health coverage and drug benefits in the economic downturn, the need for this kind of community facility has never been more important," said Perriello.
The Recovery Act Capital Improvement Program grants will support the construction, repair and renovation of over 1,500 health center sites nationwide.
