The Franklin County Patriots held a tea party Friday July 3rd, 2009 to protest the growning federal debt, out of control taxes, & the loss of freedom. The event was attended by 100 to 200 people.
The event was organized by Reverend Richard Walters & his wife Marietta Walters, PHD. Mrs. Walters said that she and Mrs. Shelly Leet organized the first Tea Party of the year (Tax Day, April 15th). Mrs. Leet was unable to help with this event due to family commitments. So the Walters have picked up the torch and will continue the struggle to preserve freedom in the United States. When asked why they choose to do this Mrs Walters said, "We spent 30 years as missionaries and we have been & are increasingly concerned about the future of our county. Specifically Finances, Freedom, & the governments Kowtowing to Islam. We just felt it was time to get involved.
Speakers included Virgil Goode, Charles Poindexter, Richard Walters, Marietta Walters, Jim Walls, Tom Simmons, Lee Hubert, Tom Marshall, John Kepley, Bob Martin, & Lee Greer.
Specific issues the group is opposed to are: Nationalized Health Care; Cap and Trade; High Taxes; Loss of Freedom; Bailouts; overspending; inflation of the money supply; Government(s) not following the U.S. Constitution (mostly federal, but state, & local as well); and other issues. The group is very vocal about supporting the U.S. Constitution, preserving Liberty (personal freedoms), & the American way of life.

The group is also planning on participating in int September 12th, 2009 Patriots March on Washington.
