The Boones Mill Garden Club undertook a community service project yesterday (July 2, 2009) by donating and planting flowers at the new location of the Franklin County Perinatal Education Center. Amy Pendleton (FCPEC Director) said that the Boones Mill Garden Club had planted flowers at their old location on Claibourne Avenue & was very happy that they had chosen to do so again at the new location on South Main Street.
The club planted a variety of flowers that included: Tall Marigolds, Begonias, Angel Wings, and Petenias.
Those members who were able to come out and help with the planting were: Brenda McManaway, Rachel Youngman, Olivia Smith, Carrolyn Hurd, Nellie Kritter, & Carol Flieger.
The flower planting was part of an ongoing remodeling project for the building (the old Helms's Farmer's Exchange Building) which the FCPEC now owns. When the project is completed it will house 4 non-profit agencies: Franklin County Perinatal Education Center, The United Way of Franklin County (tenative), Habitat for Humanity, & Family Councilors. Currently only the FCPEC & Habitat for Humanity are moved into the location.
