One of the Republicans seeking the GOP nomination to challenge 1st term Congressman Tom Perriello is Feda Kidd Morton of Fluvanna County. On Thursday November 11th, 2009 she spoke at a meeting of the Franklin County Patriots.
Mrs. Morton has five children with her husband Don. Three of her sons are cadets in the Corps of Cadets at Virginia Tech.
Mrs. Morton's broad experience includes roles in public education, administration, coaching state championship high school teams, local government, civic organizations, Christian education, home schooling, successful campaigns for elected office, and political organizing. She also co-founded and managed a successful construction company and is a member of Fluvanna Baptist Church where she teaches a Sunday School class.
Her Platform is as follows:
Protect and Defend Our Constitution as Written
Second Amendment: Defend our right to keep and bear arms. The Second Amendment is the liberty that enables us to defend all other freedoms.
Fifth Amendment: Fight for our right to property.
Tenth Amendment: Protect Virginia by honoring states’ rights. The Federal Government has only those powers specifically given to it. All other powers belong to the States.
Protect and Defend the Right to Life
Defend the right to Life of ALL persons, from conception to natural death.
Support a Strong National Defense
Equip our service men and women with the training and tools they need to defend our nation.
Reduce the Size of Government
Eliminate unnecessary bureaus of government, cut spending, and simplify the tax system to be fair to all Americans.
Defend Family Values and Parental Rights
Protect the rights of parents to make decisions for their families without the interference of government. Defend the traditional marriage between one man and one woman.
Oppose Government Run Healthcare
Support real reform of American healthcare that includes tort reform, the creation of a competitive market for health insurance across state lines, and fights healthcare fraud.
Create Jobs in the Fifth District
Eliminate burdensome regulations that choke small business growth and creation, and fight proposals that threaten the free-market.
Stop Illegal Immigration
Stop illegal immigration through tougher federal enforcement of immigration laws and better control of our borders.
No New Energy Taxes
Pursue energy reform that brings energy independence and does not burden Americans with new taxes, like cap and trade. Support use of alternative energy – clean coal, natural gas, nuclear power, and wind while encouraging exploration for oil off our coasts.
Honor Our Veterans
Deliver on our promises to provide care and services to veteran when they return home from defending our freedom.
